Hello everyone!

Well, it's been a very long time since I've written anything. Since I last wrote, I finished my mission in the Philippines, and returned to Honduras, to the mission I was at from 2012-2014. I arrived there at the end of February this year, and it has been a year full of blessings.

Here's a link to our end-of-the-year bulletin, which gives some info about what went on this year in our community and the 15 different ministries we were serving in:

Just a story or two from the past few weeks:

We recently started a St. Vincent de Paul chapter in Honduras, to take care of the physical needs of the poorest of the poor. We were able to raise money to provide food for 30 families, and went out last week to deliver the packages. One family we encountered - a single mother with her 4 children - said they hadn't eaten a full meal in 6 days. They were so grateful, and there was so much joy as they welcomed us into their humble home and we prayed and thanked God for His providence.

I've been working at an orphanage for boys all year, and we were able to take the boys from the orphanage on a camping trip in the mountains for 2 days as our end-of-the-year party. They never get the chance to get out of their compound and get up to the mountains, and they were VERY excited. We did a hike, went swimming, played soccer, had a bonfire, and slept outside. Most of them had no idea what a sleeping bag was! They kept asking me: how do I use this thing? How am I going to breathe if I'm inside it? It's so hot in here!! - Ok, just unzip it a bit if you're hot...Such a fun experience. They were all asking me why we wouldn't stay another day, and when we were coming back. Hopefully we'll be able to do it again in the new year.

Lastly, for the past 9 days we've been living the tradition of the "posadas." This consists of going to a different home every evening, and reenacting Mary and Joseph seeking a place to stay in the inn. The crowd of people knock on the door and wait outside, and then a song ensues - There's no room in the inn; but my wife is going to give birth to the Son of God! - eventually they are allowed in, and more singing continues, as well as prayers, food, and fellowship. It's a beautiful tradition to spend time together in preparation for Christmas, and a good reflection on the ways in which we lack "room" for the Son of God in our own lives, our hearts, and our relationships with others. What are the ways in which we such other people out of our lives? What are the obstacles that keep God from entering more fully into my life? The more we open the door and allow Him to come in, the more we will find the peace that only the Christ-child can give.

Praying for you and your family this Christmas! I look forward to the surprises the Lord has in store in 2022!

Peace of Christ this Christmas,

Eric
